Today the MLB honors Jackie Robinson. A hero, a legend, a superb athlete but most importantly, a noble man who made a difference by simply being himself.

The light at the end of the tunnel came in the mail this weekend. Supplied by K2 trophies and yours truly-aka the Commish.
Last year, the lady at Things Remembered had to engrave “Milton’s PimpTalkinWhosJockin” on it. She was fairly confused. Hopefully I’ll save some money on letters this year and she can engrave “EmsAssKickers” on it.
The only Padre at the All Star Game proves how classy San Diego really is.

Playing fantasy basketball (and thereby completing the trifecta of fantasy sports geekiness for me) this season made me appreciate the sport a whole lot more, but not enough to actually watch any Clippers games. But mix in Norm Macdonald with sports anything, and you’ve got my attention.
Student: “Ms. G, doesn’t Padres mean parents in Spanish?”
Ms. G: “Yes, but it can also mean priests.”
Student (reading my jersey again): “So the baseball team you like is the San Diego Priests?”
Ms. G: “Yup, that’s my team!”
We were ranked 30th last year, crawled up to 3rd at one point and almost made the playoffs with a bunch of old stars and new no-names. This year we’re ranked 24-20th but predicted to end up last in the NL West. We had to trade Adrian Gonzalez and most of the players in the video since our payroll is equal to Alex Rodriguez’s salary this year. But none of that matters, I’m keeping the faith. Beating the Cardinals after 11 innings on Opening Day was a great way to start the season. Go Padres!
Their logo reminds me of the Thundercats. Their team colors are the same as all of the schools I ever went to as well as my beloved Chargers. I can’t decide which character I love the most because I change my mind after every episode. If I could cross-stitch, I’d put their motto on a pillow:
“Clear eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Lose”
In an effort to keep myself distracted/entertained as I await the fate of football, I caved and joined my cousin’s fantasy baseball league. I have no idea what I’m doing, but I actually like and follow baseball so this could be a lot of fun. Or at the very least a good excuse to reference the Sandlot as much as possible.
Other people may be experiencing March Madness, but since San Diego State got eliminated this week, I’m trapped in this limbo where baseball hasn’t started and football’s a hot mess so I’m feeling sports withdrawals. My fantasy basketball season is almost over and my fantasy baseball draft is tomorrow so I’m baking scones for a birthday brunch, working on my draft picks and watching a whole lot of Friday Night Lights.
Thanks to Netflix (and my friend Brandon who lets me use his account) I get to stream all 4 seasons of Friday Night Lights at my leisure and hopefully I’ll be all caught up by the time NBC starts showing the final season. Hooray!
